I am happy to share that Kimmy The Great, Inc has been nationally certified as a Women’s Business Enterprise by the Women’s Business Enterprises Council of Metro NY, a regional certifying partner of the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC).
This past May, Mother’s Day to be exact I submitted my completed application for certification and was extremely proud to do so! After starting the process on my own over process over a year and a half ago I became overwhelmed combining the requirements of the application with my daily work routine and put it off and to the side.
As a business owners who’s primary mission was and continues to be to support entrepreneurs and small businesses, I quickly discovered that in order to sustain my own business working with corporations needed to be a continued component of my career and business model.
Even when the benefits of being certified kept reappearing in various ways through conversations and content I’d come across, it wasn’t until a mentor and past client introduced me to Certified Access that I saw a light at the end of the tunnel. Certified Access is a not-for-profit that helps Women of Color understand the competitive procurement process and connect them to opportunities appropriate for their company, leveling the playing field for businesses like mine.
With their education and support and alongside a community of other women, also seeking certification completing the process over the course of several months felt achievable and it was.
The WBENC standard of certification implemented by the Women’s Business Enterprise Council of Metro NY is a meticulous process including an in-depth review of the business and site inspection. The certification process is designed to confirm the business is at least 51% owned, operated, and controlled by a woman or women. By including women-owned businesses among their suppliers, corporations and government agencies demonstrate their commitment to fostering diversity and the continued development of their supplier diversity programs.
I look forward to continuing the work that I do, and the opportunity to sustain a profitable business that allows me to do what I love.
