What’s Your Social “Plan B”

Yesterday Instagram experienced a longer than ever outage along with popular platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger and every business coach, small business owner and big business just the same was forced to pause their posting plans for the platform for a day. By today, I’m sure every digital analyst and marketing expert has spent time reviewing the data to see how this outage affected business and discussing how to be more nimble - just in case.

As they should.

Throughout my career as a marketer it’s become second nature to consider what consumers think when they interact with the brands I’ve supported, their user experience, personalizing content and most importantly the constant effort to “own” the customer, or integrate them into a CRM strategy.

Every brand wants a loyal customer that will engage with them on every platform, especially social media accounts like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter where communicated to a customer who’s already shown their invested in the brand by becoming a part of its community.

It could be very useful to revisit your target audience and consider all the touchpoints in which you could communicate with them online and offline.

Make your marketing a mix and never depend on one source as the end all be all to creating content for and sharing content with your ideal customer. You’ll want email, SMS as well as your brands own website to become key components of your marketing and communication strategy and don’t forget the not-so-out-of-date strategies like OOH (out of home) or direct mail.

How are you considering new ways to connect with your audience offline and online and what percentage of your marketing strategies does social media account for? 🤔
